Welcome!
I am so glad you’re here.
Wondering if this is the right place for you? It is.
This letter provides wide-ranging inspiration and guidance from a me, a Bipolar-Autistic author, speaker, and neurodiversity-affirming writing coach who helps neurodivergent people (like you!) tell compelling stories.
Creativity—which for me means writing—is an essential part of being human. For neurodivergent people, tapping into our creativity can entail a different, and sometimes dangerous, process of shaking off society’s expectations of who were are supposed to be.
What is “neurodiversity”? And “neurodiversity-affirming”?
Neurodiversity means normal variation in human brain function, emphasis on normal. is a generous word that includes autism, adhd, depression, anxiety, PTSD, and more.
As a neurodiversity-affirming writing coach (email me if you’re interested), I support your normal variations, taking into account the strengths, not just the struggles of your neurodiversity.
My mission with this substack is to give readers free practical advice, backed by science, for working, creating, writing, and living a neurodivergent life in a society that wasn’t made for us and frequently pushes us to the margins.
You have a voice. I’ll help you use it.
Loudly, if you’d like.
I live in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with my two kids, my spouse, two horses, and many adopted pets.
Logistics
Not every post will go out as an email. Some are will be longer essays that you can read here on Substack.
The writing I do here will always be free, past and future. Other benefits, like writing groups led by me, might become available to those who want to do a paid subscription.
Please forward anything you enjoy to your friends. This letter is for everyone, not just subscribers.
The discussion feature is great! I engage as much as I can with people who write comments on posts—so long as they are respectful to the humanity and dignity of all people.
Love to you all,
